I’m from Germany, just turned 50. I’ve been working in customer service for almost eight years now, starting out in traditional call centers and eventually working as a team leader in several of them. At some point I came across yoummday – and since then, a lot has changed. These days I split my time between Turkey and Malaysia, travel a lot, and still work full-time throughout. That would have been simply unthinkable before.

Work-life balance. That’s the word that sums it all up. Before, you practically had to beg to get a day off. A long weekend with the family? A huge ordeal. Here, that’s simply not an issue. I plan my own trips, schedule my own shifts – without needing anyone’s approval. Over the past three years, I’ve been to six different countries. With a traditional job, I simply couldn’t have afforded that – neither financially nor in terms of time.
That also applies to difficult moments in life. I lost my sister. I let my Talent Coordinator know that I wasn’t in a state to take shifts right then. The response was: “No problem. Take as much time as you need. Reach out whenever you’re ready.” In a normal employment situation, I would have been entitled to the legally mandated three days – and that would have been it. That kind of trust and humanity – you don’t forget that.
Really well, honestly. I set myself a daily target – say, 40 or 50 euros – and check in on when I’ve hit it. If I haven’t, I just put in another hour. That’s a kind of freedom you simply don’t find elsewhere. I can work from a hotel, from anywhere. yoummday’s technology makes that possible – we’ve genuinely had very few technical issues. The system just works.
It varies a lot – and that’s exactly what makes it great. During the week, sometimes it’s morning to midday, sometimes midday to evening, depending on mood and family situation. On weekends, I deliberately work less because I want to spend time with my family. Right now I’m doing around 35 hours a week – not too little, not too much. For me, that’s the perfect work-life balance.
Honestly: the money – but in a good way. With yoummday, you don’t actually know exactly what you’ll have earned by the end of the day. There are call minutes, but also bonuses for completed applications. It has a bit of that feeling of a pleasant surprise – you’re happy when a good day turns out even better than expected. Every day is a small adventure. And usually in a good way.
And then there’s the feedback from customers. When someone says the call genuinely helped them – that’s when I sleep well at night. I did my job well, earned some money, and got a compliment. I don’t need anything more than that.
Working from home has its pros and cons, I’ll be honest about that. You’re more free, but you also have to push yourself. That natural pressure you feel in an office, with everyone working around you, that’s just not there at home. But something yoummday does really well: the community. We have our own chat channels where Freelance Talents from different projects talk to each other: about everyday life, about work, about life in general. Sometimes just jokes too. That matters. We’re social beings, we need that kind of connection. My team leader actually called me personally on my birthday once – not an automated email, but a real conversation, just to wish me happy birthday. At first I had no idea why he’d asked for a call, and I was a bit nervous. And then that: a genuine, personal birthday call. It might sound like a small thing, but to me that’s humanity. That’s something I hope stays the same going forward.
Not for the bonus – I want to be clear about that. I recommend yoummday because I know Freelance Talents who are genuinely good, and I think to myself: it’s a shame they’re spending their time elsewhere. Here they could earn just as much, or more, while having far more freedom. That’s the reasoning behind it.
Bug your Talent Coordinators – in a good way. The training gives you a solid foundation, but there will always be situations you haven’t encountered yet in the beginning. Ask questions, keep asking, build your own knowledge base. The faster you build up that knowledge, the more confident you’ll feel on calls. A lot of new Freelance Talents are afraid to go online and talk to customers because they feel like they don’t know enough yet. But the knowledge comes – and until then: ask, ask, ask. Everything else falls into place naturally.
